This initiative addresses various key areas, including climate resilience, EU directives compliance, rural water supply, circular economy practices, and financial sustainability. The program leverages regional expertise and collaborative workshops to share knowledge and experiences from both the regional and European contexts, promoting a more robust and eco-conscious water sector.

Financial Sustainability of Wastewater Management in the Danube Region

The World Bank and the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) organized a virtual workshop to address a knowledge gap in understanding the importance of financial sustainability in wastewater services. Demand for such a workshop was expressed in a regional review of wastewater management activities. 

How to Close the Rural Access Gap to Wastewater Treatment and Sanitation Services

Jointly organized by the World Bank and the ICPDR, this workshop aimed to contribute to understanding and issue awareness about potential approaches to overcome constraints and to create an enabling framework for sustainable and decentralized solutions for wastewater treatment in rural areas.  

Water Scarcity and Drought Risk Management in the Danube Region

Water scarcity and droughts are amongst the most tangible and devastating consequences of the climate crisis. This workshop, co-organized by the Global Water Partnerchip CEE, provided a platform for sharing best practices and options to enhance the region's resilience to water scarcity and droughts, as well as taking stock of challenges and potential support needs for future action.
