International Riversymposium
Organizer: International River Foundation, IAWD

This year's International Riversymposium is themed "Journey to Resilience: Communities, Climate & Biodiversity" and will be held both in the beautiful city of Vienna and online for those who are unable to travel.

Hosted by the International RiverFoundation, the International Riversymposium was first held in Brisbane in 1998 and provides a platform for river managers, policy developers, scientists, consultants, NGOs and community organisations to share knowledge and innovative ideas on all aspects of river and water management.

By facilitating partnerships between key stakeholders, the International Riversymposium celebrates the environmental, economic and social value of rivers across the globe. The symposium provides an international forum for examining best practice in river and watershed management.

Over the years, the International Riversymposium has hosted thousands of delegates from all over the world. Whether through the RiverExpo, plenary sessions, or the Riverprize Gala Dinner and social program, Riversymposium provides the opportunity to network with river and water management experts on a global scale.

This year’s Riversymposium is special in so many ways:

  • It’s the 25th anniversary so all those who have worked towards healthy and resilient rivers over that time will be celebrated.
  • The fundamental connections between rivers and communities and the twin crises of our time – Climate and Biodiversity - are recognise.
  • The main event will be held in Vienna with our partner IAWD so you can experience the picturesque Danube River, Christmas markets and stunning architecture of the city as well as its beautiful river surrounds.
  • The global community will be brought together by:
    • Running local events that feed into IRS 2022 in Vienna
    • Operating online so that other time zones can join in Vienna
    • Hosting local events in other places in the hours that those in Vienna are asleep.

Browse the Event's website for further information and details on how to submit an abstract.
