(Dr)Ou(gh)t of Sight, (Dr)Ou(gh)t of Mind: Relevance and risks of droughts for the water service sector in the Danube region
Organizer: IAWD and World Bank

The Danube Water Program “KnowNow” webinar series focuses on up-to-date topics relevant for the water sector in the Danube region.

Climate extremes pose a threat to socio-economic and natural systems. This year, Europe and several other regions of the world have been affected by extreme events such as drought and heatwaves. Precipitation and snow accumulation deficits severely affected water resources, specifically in the Po and Danube, but also other river basins on the continent.

While severe droughts occurred in the past, the 2022 extreme drought-heatwave event may be the worst on record – a situation which may become the norm in the context of climate change if no effective mitigation and adaptation will take place.

How was the water service sector affected by the 2022 extreme event, and which measures and practices are needed to adapt the sector?

This webinar will raise awareness, allow to share latest scientific findings, and to discuss approaches to increase resilience of the water service sector in the Danube region and beyond.
