The European Commission’s 2019 announcement of the European Green Deal marked a pivotal moment in the pursuit of sustainability. This roadmap aims to transform climate and environmental challenges into opportunities across all policy domains, fostering a just and inclusive transition. Key objectives include achieving carbon neutrality, promoting a circular economy, and halting climate change and biodiversity loss.

This document draws on JASPERS’ experience and the European Commission’s guidelines to enhance Member States’ capacity for Appropriate Assessment (AA) of projects. Specifically, it supports AA processes for water and wastewater infrastructure development and flood prevention and disaster risk management projects.
