The third cycle of the Utility Management Training (UMT) is just around the corner, and feedback from previous cycles has been overwhelmingly positive. Launched in 2021 as a cutting-edge, modular two-year masterclass for comprehensive management in the water service sector, UMT has continued to meet its goals, delivering high-quality training despite global challenges. Serving as a mid-career skill enhancer for professionals in water utilities, UMT has also become an invaluable knowledge hub for decision-makers across industries and administrations involved in the sector. Cycle III of UMT is set to begin in early 2024, and applications are now open.

Pumps and pipes are essential, but it’s the people that truly make the difference: Water utilities everywhere require dynamic, forward-thinking management to navigate the ever-evolving challenges they face.

In response to the growing demand for expert leadership in the water sector, the Danube Learning Partnership introduced UMT in 2021. Building on the success of the D-LeaP programs, and supported by prominent utilities in Central and Eastern Europe, UMT equips current and future leaders in water management with the tools and techniques necessary to enhance their decision-making capabilities.

Over its two-year duration, UMT covers the full spectrum of utility management, organized into modular periods typically lasting four months each.

UMT’s academic partner, Sofia University, provides the academic framework for the program, allowing participants to earn ECTS credits equivalent to one semester (30 ECTS) of a potential follow-up Master’s degree.

As part of the program, each participant will develop a graduation project. Financial support is available for eligible participants: The World Bank, with the backing of the Global Water Security & Sanitation Partnership (GWSP), intends to offer YWP scholarships to support UMT participation.

Additionally, the UMT participation fee is considered an eligible cost under the Technical Assistance of investment projects funded by various International Financial Institutions (IFIs).

This is a unique opportunity to advance your expertise and join a diverse group of professionals committed to improving water utility management across the globe. Whether you are looking to develop new skills, expand your network, or drive innovation within your organization, UMT offers the tools and support needed to succeed. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this dynamic program — applications are now open, and spaces are limited. Make sure to make your application before the deadline on 20 January 2025!
